Blue Earth

by Jeff Stover

“Blue Earth is quite an accomplished novel, well laid out with very strong characterisation, it was somewhat of a surprise to see a début novel of this calibre.”

Welcome to author Jeff Stover’s site for Theological Speculative Literature (Theo-Spec).

I write both novel-length and short fiction that fits into the genres of Science Fiction, Action, Mainstream, Slipstream, whatever (Ah....genres. How 20th-Century). But seriously, you can call my work Theo-Spec.

Blue Throne Fiction is the base for my Speculative Fiction in all forms. Check out my first novel, Blue Earth.

Read more about the Speculative Fiction I write and the Speculative Fiction books I read.

I also coach writers and facilitate a story-craft discussion group. Most of this work is done for free.

MORE ABOUT THEOLOGICAL SPECULATIVE WRITING:

Speculative Fiction (from Wikipedia) -is an umbrella term encompassing the more fantastical fiction genres, specifically science fiction, fantasy, horror, weird fiction, supernatural fiction, superhero fiction, utopian and dystopian fiction, apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic fiction, and alternate history in literature as well as related static, motion, and virtual arts.

Theological Speculative Literature, Theo-Spec (Jeff Stover’s definition) - any speculative story not intentionally built for a genre and focused on the highest levels of story-craft, character, and entertainment., while having an element of theological inquiry integral to the story.

The finest examples include:

A Canticle for Leibowitz by Walter J. Miller

The Space Trilogy by C.S. Lewis

A Case for Conscious by James Blish

The impetus behind defining Speculative Fiction in a new way comes from my experience with fellow writers. While genre conventions are usually good–especially those that build a common ground for us to share creative work in languages we each can understand–the concern I have for fiction is one of limits; it has none, and all writers should be free to pursue the type of fiction they’d like to write.

The current environment is moving in that direction, but most writers are left to cut a swath through the intellectual mire of what good fiction is and how it is published.

In response, I offer my own thoughts and passions on my blog. Have fun checking out the rest of my site, and please feel free to post your thoughts on the blog.
